The short answer everyone wants: almost everywhere that permits gambling sets the minimum age at 18, with the notable exceptions of the United States (21 in most casino states), and a handful of 19–20 jurisdictions. But the age number is the least complicated part of the map — the harder questions are whether online play is legal where you live, and what “offshore” actually means for you. This is orientation, not legal advice.
The age map, broadly
- 18: UK, most of the EU, Canada (most provinces), Australia, most of Latin America and Asia where gambling is legal at all.
- 19: parts of Canada (e.g. Ontario’s casino floor rules differ from its iGaming rules), South Korea’s lone citizen casino.
- 20–21: Japan (20 for most wagering), USA (21 for casinos in most states; 18 for lottery/pari-mutuel in some).
- Illegal regardless of age: much of the Middle East, several Asian jurisdictions, and a few strict outliers elsewhere — where the age question is moot because the activity itself is prohibited.
The three legality buckets
- Regulated markets (UK, much of EU, parts of the US and Canada): licensed operators, player protections, taxes handled, and a regulator to complain to. If you have this option, it’s the best one by a wide margin.
- Grey markets (much of the world): online gambling isn’t clearly legalized for local operators, but offshore sites accept players and enforcement targets operators, not players. Most crypto and skin casinos live here. Personal risk is usually low, but it’s not zero — and it’s your responsibility to know your jurisdiction, not the casino’s to keep you out.

Age verification at offshore and crypto casinos
Licensed-market casinos verify age at signup. Offshore and no-KYC crypto sites often don’t — which creates a strange reality: nothing technically stops an underage signup, but everything stops the underage withdrawal. The industry pattern is consistent: deposit easily, and meet verification at cashout time, where being underage means confiscation with no recourse. The terms you skipped are the entire legal relationship, and they all say 18+.
Why the age rules deserve respect (beyond legality)
Underage gambling is the single strongest predictor of problem gambling later — the research is unambiguous, which is why every serious operator enforces it and why we won’t help anyone route around it. If you’re under 18: the sites will still be there when you’re of age, the games will still have the same edge, and the only thing early access buys is risk you can’t yet price. Bottom line
Know your country’s rule before your first deposit, not after your first big win. Regulated-market players should use regulated sites. Grey-market players should know they’re in one. And everyone should assume that the one moment identity gets checked is the moment money moves out — because that’s exactly when it happens.
